Ernst Koslitsch's 'Cosmic Trigger - Respawn' at Bildraum 07

Bildraum 07 in Vienna presents Ernst Koslitsch's exhibition 'Cosmic Trigger - Respawn', curated by Katharina Hoffmann, running from 17 April to 27 May 2026. The show repurposes formwork timber—temporary construction material marked by use—into sculptures that explore recurrence and transformation. Koslitsch borrows the video-game concept of respawn (a character returning after elimination) as a method for reconfiguring discarded materials. The first room features a wall constellation of dozens of small wooden fragments in warm yellow-ochre, suggesting both explosion and system. Three large panels of formwork timber cut into figure-like silhouettes occupy an adjoining wall, their shadows acting as a second set of works. A second room includes screens showing video-game respawn footage and a rolling metal table with small sculptures. A notable small blue figure on a dark wooden plinth embodies survival through change. The gallery is operated by Bildrecht, Austria's visual artists' rights organization, adding institutional weight to Koslitsch's practice of reclaiming used materials. The exhibition emphasizes that forms do not die but return differently, with each reconfiguration carrying new force.
