Ernesto Neto's monumental interactive installation at MAAT in Lisbon
The MAAT museum in Lisbon presents 'Nosso Barco Tambor Terra', a large interactive installation by Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto, curated by Jacopo Crivelli Visconti. The work, made of thousands of intertwined cotton threads and fishing nets, forms a giant primordial nest that visitors can walk through without shoes on a floor of natural bark. Percussion instruments hang from chintz fabric, inviting visitors to play them, creating a cacophony of sounds. The installation is on view until October 7. Concurrently, MAAT hosts two other solo shows: 'Os dias estao numerados' by Portuguese photographer Daniel Blaufuks (until October 7) and 'Mar Aberto' by French photographer Nicolas Floc'h (until August 26), both curated by Joao Pinharanda. Blaufuks' work features A4 sheets with daily annotations, photos, and collages from 2023-2024. Floc'h presents underwater photographs and sculptures, including a mural of the Tagus River's color spectrum. Lisbon has become a vibrant cultural hub, with institutions like the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the MAC/CCB, and MAAT, which occupies a former power station and a building by AL_A. The city also promotes artists from former Portuguese colonies.
