award · 2026-04-27

illycaffè has launched the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award 2020, a digital illustration project honoring the legacy of Ernesto Illy, son of the founder and pioneer of sustainable coffee partnerships. The award highlights stories of coffee growers and product improvement through illustration. Nine international illustrators were selected to create visual identities for Colombia, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Rwanda, India, Brazil, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The artists include George Greaves (UK), Atelier Bingo (France), ZEBU (Berlin), Hola Lou (Mexico), Reyna Noriega (Miami), Amber Vittoria (New York), Bodil Jane (Netherlands), Studio Grand-Père (Brazil), and Dabito (US). The project updates early 20th-century travel poster illustration for contemporary social media storytelling, emphasizing drawing over photography in an era of instant image oversaturation.
