Erjon Nazeraj's Exhibition at Oratorio San Quirino in Parma
Erjon Nazeraj (born in Fier, Albania, 1982) presents a solo exhibition at the Oratorio San Quirino in Parma, Italy. The show features a drawing of his body connected to a placenta placed where the altar once stood, symbolizing the first human "dwelling." Three photographs document a 2016 performance in which the artist wrapped himself in a thermal blanket, using his body to address migration through explicit yet aesthetically powerful images enhanced by gold and ductility. Set in a marble quarry, the exhibition explores themes of home—abandoned by migrants in their countries of origin and desperately sought elsewhere—alongside reflections on landscape and family. It culminates with "Silenzio d'oro," a work critiquing the "media saraband of annoying daily life" and the need for silence as a condition to be broken and deconstructed, allowing only essential clues to qualify the show: a story of cyclical, uncontrolled migration that leaves marks on the landscape, gold signs on marble, minimal dwellings, and placentas. The exhibition is curated by Andrea Tinterri.
