Eris Edizioni launches “Nonguide” series of anti-travel guides

publication · 2026-04-26

Eris Edizioni has launched a new book series called Nonguide, edited by Silvio Valpreda, which subverts traditional travel guides by offering subjective, psychogeographic explorations rather than itineraries or monument checklists. Inspired by Guy Debord's 1955 Introduction à une critique de la géographie urbaine, the series aims to present places marked by conflict, marginality, and cultural fractures, encouraging readers to embrace contradiction and the unexpected. The first two volumes are Confini by Eric Gobetti, a non-nationalistic wandering through Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy, and Valle umana by Saverio Fattori, which explores the Po Valley where economic prosperity coexists with existential malaise and technological artifice. A third volume, Pesce grande e pesce piccolo by Italo-Togolese journalist Matteo Koffi Fraschini, is due in October and focuses on Senegal's social and environmental contrasts caused by aggressive economic development. The series' graphic design mixes writing, photography, and drawing to provide complementary aesthetic tools for investigating places: photography offers apparent objectivity, drawing conveys subjectivity, and writing links the two. Valpreda previously authored Capitalocene (Add Editore, 2020). The article was written by Valentina Muzi for Artribune.
