Erika Verzutti's First Major European Solo Exhibition Opens at Centre Pompidou in Paris

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Erika Verzutti's first major European solo exhibition opened at the Centre Pompidou in Paris on January 20. The São Paulo-born artist presents a body of work centered on a large plaster and styrofoam swan, accompanied by sculptures in ceramic, bronze, papier-mâché, and cement. Curated by Christiane Macel, who previously selected Verzutti for the main exhibition of the 2017 Venice Biennale, the show features forms inspired by nature, referencing animals, stones, fruits, and vegetables. The Pompidou's curatorial text describes her work as characterized by sensuality, material tactility, and unexpected details, with underlying dualities of reality and fiction, natural and artificial. In an interview with Folha de S.Paulo, Verzutti stated that artistic creation involves letting new things happen and allowing magic to be produced, sometimes rendering a theme unnecessary. The exhibition, which can be partially viewed through the museum's industrial architecture glass walls, also touches on themes like feminism and the codes of image culture and social networks. It remains on view until April 15. Verzutti has also exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the São Paulo Biennial.
