Eric Shiner to Lead White Cube's New York Office

institutional · 2026-05-04

White Cube has appointed Eric Shiner as artistic director of its New York office at 699 Madison Avenue, third floor, in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Shiner, former director of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and senior vice president at Sotheby's, will oversee the gallery's expansion in the United States. The office, revealed informally at Frieze New York, operates by appointment only and is not a public gallery. White Cube already has two London locations and one in Hong Kong; a previous outpost in São Paulo, Brazil, opened in 2012 but closed after three years due to high import taxes. The Upper East Side has attracted other international galleries: Almine Rech, Galerie Buchholz, and David Zwirner, who opened a third New York space there last year and plans a fourth on West 21st Street designed by Renzo Piano. Susan May, White Cube's artistic director, stated Shiner will lead the gallery's U.S. activities. Shiner expressed enthusiasm for joining the team and developing the global artist roster, saying, 'White Cube has marked a turning point in the cultural sphere.'
