Eric Morecambe Mural Unveiled for Centenary Celebrations

A new mural of Eric Morecambe is being unveiled in his birthplace, Morecambe, on what would have been his 100th birthday. The artwork honors the comedic double act Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, and will be revealed by Eric's children Gary and Gail at Johnny's Bar on Marine Road Central at 11:00 BST. The centenary weekend includes a visit to Eric's statue on Morecambe Promenade on May 14, guided walks by local historian Peter Wade on May 14-16, a free exhibition at the Arndale Centre's Morecambe Heritage Centre running through summer, a student run by Morecambe Bay Academy on May 15, outdoor screenings of The Intelligence Men on May 15 and That Riviera Touch on May 17, open days at Morecambe Winter Gardens on May 16-17, a discussion hosted by Martin Clarkson on May 16, and performances of the West End show Eric and Ern on May 16-17. Eric Morecambe died in 1984 at age 58 from a heart attack. The events are supported by Morecambe Town Council.
