Ercolano launches new app with five thematic routes and reopens two ancient domus

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

The Italian Ministry of Culture has introduced a complimentary smartphone application for the Archaeological Park of Ercolano, which is accessible in nine languages. This app offers five thematic pathways and employs WiFi, LiFi, and Bluetooth beacons to deliver context-sensitive information. Its launch aligns with the reopening of the Casa del Colonnato Tuscanico and Casa del Sacello di legno, officiated by Minister Alessandro Giuli and Deputy Minister Edmondo Cirielli. The park is also enhancing the Terme Suburbane and unveiling the new Custode room. This initiative is part of the Ercolano Digitale project, backed by the Packard Humanities Institute, which has invested around 45 million euros in new facilities and extensive excavations, the first since Amedeo Maiuri's efforts nearly a century ago.
