ER Yacht Design Unveils 131-Foot Explorer Concept with Elegant, Sculptural Lines
Canada-based ER Yacht Design has unveiled the ER 40, a 131-foot expedition yacht concept that prioritizes elegance and comfort alongside long-range cruising capability. The studio describes the design as a departure from typical boxy explorer yachts, featuring a clean, sculptural profile with long horizontal glazing, a distinctive bow, and balanced volumes. The deck arrangement includes multiple outdoor areas: an aft deck opening to the sea for watersports, a bridge deck and flybridge for entertaining, and a foredeck with a large sun pad. The interior is warm and modern, with soft neutral fabrics, stone surfaces, natural wood finishes, and darker gloss accents, plus integrated lighting and large windows. The layout comprises open social spaces, four guest cabins on the lower deck, and an owner's suite on the main deck. Propulsion and performance specs are not yet determined; the studio notes the design can be adapted to various propulsion packages, hull forms, and range targets. For reference, the similar-sized Numarine 40MXP pocket explorer Mitan (128 feet) achieves 6,000 nautical miles at 8 knots with twin MAN 800 hp diesels.
