EOOS presents low-cost migrant furniture at MAK during Vienna Design Week

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

During Vienna Design Week (September 30 – October 9, 2016), the MAK – Museum für angewandte Kunst in Vienna hosted a solidarity event for migrants featuring a complete line of low-cost, modular furniture designed by the Austrian collective EOOS. The collection, made entirely from yellow wood panels derived from concrete formwork, is intended for temporary housing and is flexible, functional, and affordable. EOOS, founded in 1995 by Georg Bohmann, Harald Gründl, and Martin Bergmann, has previously worked with major brands such as Giorgio Armani, Alessi, Adidas, Bulthaup, and Poltrona Frau. The event was thematically linked to the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, titled "Reporting from the Front" by director Alejandro Aravena, and specifically to the Austrian Pavilion's concept "Places for People." The furniture line was presented under the banner StadtFabrik [City factory].
