Enzo Enea Brings Tree Museum to Art Basel 2026

For the seventh consecutive year, Swiss landscape architect Enzo Enea collaborates with Art Basel to design the lounge area of the fair in Basel. This year, for the edition running from June 15 to 21, Enea will transform the Rundhof into an immersive natural environment with an installation titled The Living Fragment, inspired by his Enea Tree Museum near Zurich. The installation will be accessible from June 18 to 21 (with VIP preview on June 16 and 17). It features trees from Europe, North America, the Caucasus, and East Asia, forming a living atlas of biodiversity. Unlike previous years, no artworks are included; instead, hand-carved wooden seats treated with the traditional Japanese Yakisugi technique provide a resting area. Enea, who founded Enea Landscape Architecture in 1993, has been saving trees from construction sites for over 25 years, relocating them to his museum on Lake Zurich. His past Art Basel installations include Climate Nomads (2024), a vegetal Renaissance (2025), Island of Trees (2022), and Treetopia (2023). The Living Fragment continues his mission to place trees as living sculptures alongside art.
