Enzo Cucchi's First Albanian Exhibition Opens at COD in Tirana

The first institutional exhibition dedicated to Enzo Cucchi in Albania, titled 'I soli di tutte le terre', opens at the COD (Centre for Openness and Dialogue) in Tirana on June 5, 2025. The show is a collaboration between the Italian Institute of Culture in Tirana and Spazio Taverna, curated by Marco Bassan and Ludovico Pratesi. It brings together historical works by the Marche-born artist (b. 1949), many unseen together for years, alongside new drawings created for the occasion. Key early pieces from private collections include 'Quadro santo' (1980), 'Carro di fuoco' (1981), 'Paesaggio barbaro' (1983), and the monumental 'Il miracolo della neve' (1986), over five meters long. The exhibition opens with 'Untitled' (also called 'Piccolo personaggio marchigiano') from 1979, the year the term Transavanguardia first appeared, a movement Cucchi helped define. A section focuses on Cucchi's relationship with the Marche region, featuring eleven small paintings of real landscapes. The second part highlights drawing, essential to his poetics, with works spanning decades. The exhibition draws a parallel between 1980s Italy and contemporary Albania, both marked by a tension between the sacred and progress, inner life and globalization. The Adriatic Sea is presented as a connector between the two countries. The show runs until July 5, 2025.
