Enrique Martínez Celaya’s The Sea Memory (Lost) at Eduardo Secci, Florence
Enrique Martínez Celaya’s solo exhibition The Sea Memory (Lost) opened at Galleria Eduardo Secci in Florence, curated by Giorgio Verzotti. The show presents the Cuban artist’s latest large-scale paintings, featuring oversized flowers set against turbulent seascapes. Martínez Celaya reworks earlier marine paintings by overlaying energetic, dripping floral motifs, a practice of recycling and sedimentation common in contemporary art. The few canvases encourage a meditative viewing experience, with a romantic atmosphere reminiscent of the Northern Romantic tradition identified by Robert Rosenblum in 1973. The exhibition was announced over a year ago when the gallery added Martínez Celaya to its roster.
