Enrico Vannucci, Pistoia cultural pioneer and gallerist, dies at 82

Enrico Vannucci, the gallerist who founded Pistoia's first cultural hub, has died at 82. Born into a family of merchants, he opened Galleria Vannucci in 1959 with his father Ermanno and later his brother Alessandro. The gallery became a landmark space, hosting Italian and international artists such as Renato Guttuso, Marino Marini, Giovanni Michelucci, Bruno Munari, Daniel Spoerri, Carla Accardi, and Piero Dorazio. From the 1990s, it expanded into concerts and poetry readings. In 2010, his son Massimiliano joined the artistic direction, focusing on contemporary masters like Michelangelo Pistoletto and Vittorio Corsini. In 2018, the gallery moved to a post-industrial space in via Gorizia, formerly the Storai electromechanical and railway workshops. Vannucci's funeral will be held on January 21 at 10 a.m. in the church of San Paolo, with his body lying in state at the Misericordia chapels. A memorial exhibition for Vittorio Corsini, 'non odiarmi', opens January 22.
