Enrico Tealdi's 'Manifesto' Exhibition at Société Interludio in Cambiano

Enrico Tealdi (born 1976 in Cuneo) presents 'Manifesto,' an exhibition of new paintings at Société Interludio's Cambiano space, open from October 2024. The show features works from a figurative research project begun in 2015, focusing on portraiture and interior landscape. Tealdi's technique involves 'ammanitura'—preparing wooden panels with multiple layers of gesso and rabbit glue, then sanding and applying mixed media (tempera, powdered colors) in slow, layered passes for an opaque, silent finish. The paintings depict faces and profiles inspired by plaster nativity figures and rural church statues, exploring the 'ugly and malformed' as evocative carriers of human truth. Curator Stefania Margiacchi notes that the gallery, which opened a second space in a converted early-20th-century sawmill in Cambiano in May 2023, has made this its main venue since 2024 while maintaining ties to Turin. Tealdi's work is compared to Francis Bacon's expressive deformation, seeking a beauty beyond conventional boundaries that confronts mortality and societal issues.
