exhibition · 2026-05-04

Alberto Bonisoli, the Italian Minister of Cultural Heritage, revealed the artists representing the Italian Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale, which will take place from May 11 to November 24, 2019. Curated by Milovan Farronato, the selected artists are Enrico David (b. 1966, Ancona), Liliana Moro (b. 1961, Milan), and the late Chiara Fumai (1978–2017, Rome–Bari). Farronato noted their focus on themes of daily life and tradition, while Bonisoli underscored the values of 'internationality, contemporaneity, creativity.' Commissioner Federica Galloni remarked on their fit with the goals of the Directorate General for Contemporary Art. David, a Turner Prize nominee, returns after the 2013 Biennale; Moro was part of the 1993 Biennale and Documenta IX; Fumai is recognized posthumously for her feminist performance art. More information will be shared in spring 2019.
