Enrico Corte and Andrea Nurcis Open Palazzo Collicola's Piano Nobile for EXCERPTⒶ
For the first time, Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto has opened its frescoed and furnished Piano Nobile alongside the regular exhibition floor for a single project: EXCERPTⒶ, a dual retrospective of Enrico Corte (born 1963, Cagliari) and Andrea Nurcis (born 1962, Cagliari). The artists, who have collaborated since the 1980s but also work independently, describe themselves not as a duo but as occasional collaborators on specific projects, often involving third parties such as Roman piercer Pino Piercing and English comic artist Gary Splitter (both 1997). The exhibition is organized non-chronologically as a labyrinthine journey emphasizing chance and surprise, with the circled A in the title referencing anarchy of languages. Curated by Gianluca Marziani, the show includes works from adolescence to recent years, such as Nurcis's Disegni Neri series (started 1981) and Corte's L'Astrazione del Vuoto series (1995–96). The Piano Nobile displays small sculptures from the late 1990s and early 2000s by Nurcis, contrasting with Baroque furnishings, while the main floor alternates personal mini-exhibitions. The artists reject conventional artistic centers and individualism, aiming for a 'third way' of artistic practice.
