Enrico Baj Ceramic Retrospective in Savona and Albisola

A major exhibition titled 'BAJ. Baj chez Baj' celebrates the centenary of Enrico Baj (1924–2003) with a focus on his ceramic works. Running from October to February, the show is co-hosted by the Museo della Ceramica di Savona and the MuDA – Museo Diffuso Albisola at the Centro Esposizioni and Casa Museo Jorn. It traces the historical development of Baj's ceramics from the 1954 International Ceramics Meeting to his later kitsch productions from Castellamonte, featuring loans from the Baj family and private collectors. Curated by Luca Bochicchio, the exhibition includes rarely seen pieces like 'Giardino delle delizie,' brought from Baj's villa in Vergiate by his wife Roberta Cerini. The installation at MuDA recreates a forest setting originally used by Giò Marconi. Works such as 'Folla' are displayed on the floor rather than hung, a deliberate choice by Bochicchio to evoke faces emerging from rubble. The exhibition highlights Baj's political engagement, especially in his patafisico and kitsch periods, with social critiques on war and consumerism. It also connects to his collaborations with local artisans in Albisola, such as the Fabbrica Mazzotti, and later the Bottega Gatti in Faenza. The show runs parallel to a Baj exhibition at Palazzo Reale in Milan.
