Enno Hallek's Portable Sunsets Return to Estonia Posthumously

The Art Museum of Estonia has acquired thirteen works by Estonian exile artist Enno Hallek (1931–2025), fulfilling his final wish to return his art to his homeland. The donation was formalized on 26 February in Stockholm, where Hallek's daughter Camilla Hallek signed a deed of gift. The works, from the peak period 1990–2010, include modular paintings on plywood with handles, reflecting his refugee experience. Born in Rohuküla in 1931, Hallek fled to Sweden in 1943 and studied at the Royal Institute of Arts in Stockholm, later becoming a professor there. His innovative 1960s–70s work featured vividly colored wooden objects bridging painting and sculpture. The exhibition "Portable Sunset" includes free museum lessons for children from Lääne County and Western Estonian islands, supported by the foundation Aitan Lapsi. Curated by Liisa Kaljula, with design by Villu Plink, the show honors Hallek's belief in art as democratic and accessible.
