Enlarge Your Practice: Internet and Youth Culture Invade Marseille Art Space

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The group exhibition 'Enlarge Your Practice' at La Friche Belle de Mai in Marseille, running from July 7 to September 15, 2007, curated by Jean-Max Colard, Claire Moulène, and Mathilde Villeneuve, explores how artists born mostly in the 1980s appropriate adolescent practices linked to the internet and video games. The show features works that incorporate tunning, happy slapping, straight edge culture, and references to the TV show Jackass. Highlights include 'Kolkoz Computer,' a tuned computer by the duo Kolkoz that projects video clips from YouTube; 'Newborns' by Alain Della Negra and Kaori Kinoshita, which films real people entering Second Life; 'Friendly Fire' by Fabien Giraud, a reenactment of an airsoft war simulation; 'Boptile' by Emmanuelle Lainé, a sculpture made of stitched motorcycle clothing; 'Black Mat' by Guillaume Ségur, suspended black foam plates evoking judo mats or video game landscapes; and a living character by Pierre Joseph. Downstairs, Lionel Scoccimaro's 'Customised Palm Tree' features motorcycle helmets as coconuts, and his 'Austin – Mini Surf Car' faces a skatepark made of tiles by Wilfrid Almendra. 'Land Escape' by Bad Beuys Entertainment is a rooftop covered in gravel. A second part of the exhibition will take place at the renovated Fondation Ricard in Paris, accompanied by a dictionary-catalogue.
