Enej Gala's 'Nevereverevereverevereverever learn' at A plus A Gallery, Venice

Enej Gala (Ljubljana, 1990) presents his solo exhibition 'Nevereverevereverevereverever learn' at A plus A Gallery in Venice, developed over two years between his Slovenian studio and London, where he attends the Royal Academy of Arts. The show questions the premise of learning, exploring what happens if one assumes they will never learn. Gala orchestrates self-moving sculptural installations like 'Round table' (2021), which subverts the idea of sharing by transforming a round table into an organic theater with shocking pink hues hiding gears and jaw-like mechanisms. The video 'Minosaur' features a puppet-minotaur trapped in frantic, purposeless movements. Works such as 'Holders' display wooden puppets dangling from the ceiling in ambiguous poses between joyful freedom and violent despair. 'Off the wrong foot' presents twin figures sharing a leg, unable to walk but persisting. 'Wheelbarrow' is a suspended synthetic fur wheelbarrow stripped of function. 'Entry exam (exploded Muppets)' depicts twelve Muppet sculptures in a semicircle, referencing the explosive fate of puppets in early episodes. 'Strike' shows a spiked hammer clearing space among nails, warning against certainty even in painting. Gala's practice abandons the comfort of painting for precarious experimentation, embracing potential failure.
