Endecameron 20 digital edition concludes with hybrid finissage at Castello di Roccasinibalda

The virtual artist residency Endecameron 20, launched in 2020 at Castello di Roccasinibalda in Rieti, Italy, concludes with a finissage on July 27, 2020. The project, conceived by Enrico Pozzi and Cristina Cenci, adopted a digital format due to pandemic distancing measures and the growing prevalence of web-based artistic practices. Artistic director Francesca Fini explains that during the residency, artists created works based on materials provided (photographs, sounds, texts, and Pozzi's narration), imagining the castle virtually. For the finissage, these digital works will be physically installed in the castle's real spaces through video projections, displays, sound devices, live performances, readings, and augmented reality. Fini notes the inevitable surprises when virtual works meet physical space, describing the process as a reconciliation between virtual and real. She emphasizes that the experience has shown the possibility of an effective hybrid language blurring the boundary between real and virtual, which she sees as the future modality for art and society. The project adds to a global conversation on how cultural organizations can overcome crises, including pre-existing ones exacerbated by COVID-19. A hybrid publication may follow, reflecting the spirit of the experience.
