Enchanté Château: Fondation Salomon Exhibition

Curated by Christian Bernard, director of Mamco Geneva, the exhibition 'enchanté château' at Fondation Salomon in Alex (Annecy) explores the imaginary of the castle. Forty artists' works, borrowed from Geneva institutions and collectors, plus site-specific commissions, fill the Château d'Arenthon. Each room is renamed after medieval castle functions: the hall as a cour d'honneur features Tracey Emin, Marcia Hafif, and Fabrice Gygi; the chapel has graphite drawings by Christian Lhopital; the salle d'apparat pairs Jean Lurçat tapestries with Alighiero Boetti and Pierre Vadi's crushed-fox sculptures; the galerie des glaces displays Peter Saul's irreverent Last Judgment and Philippe Ramette's inverted landscapes, but mirror walls hinder viewing; the portrait gallery upstairs shows Robert Mapplethorpe, Natacha Lesueur, and Luc Andrié against Francis Baudevin's abstract wall painting—a signature Bernard touch. The standout is the bedroom, featuring Claude Lévêque's 'Aliéné étendu,' a large white canopy bed lit by neon with flowing curtains and a repetitive harp melody, echoing his 2003 Lyon Biennale piece.
