Enactive AI: Perception as Active Engagement

A new paper on arXiv advocates for integrating enactive approaches to perception and cognition into artificial intelligence. Enactive views treat perception as an active, skillful engagement with the world, contrasting with classical passive processing models. The authors identify four key enactive concepts for AI: experience, action-perception inseparability, autonomy, and embodiment. They argue that mainstream AI, including large language models, has neglected these insights.
