Ena Swansea's New York Return with Paintings and Furniture at Friedman Benda
Ena Swansea's first solo exhibition in New York City since 2007 took place at Friedman Benda from January 24 to February 15, 2014, located at 515 West 26th Street. This showcase included her paintings and a prototype for a sofa design, marking her return after displaying her work in Germany, Luxembourg, Seoul, Philadelphia, and Spain. Swansea's art merges perceptual realism from the New York School with pop-synthetic influences, portraying nighttime scenes with silky strokes atop liquid graphite. The exhibition ran concurrently with presentations by Lois Dodd, Yvonne Jacquette, Alex Katz, and Philip Pearlstein. Swansea, who has experience in photojournalism and interior décor painting, worked on the Night and Day Reversible Sofa. Key pieces featured are Go Go Dancers (2013) and It's Morning Already? (2014).
