EMST Mounts Major Stathis Logothetis Retrospective
The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST) presents 'Stathis Logothetis: Earth to Earth', a major retrospective of the Greek painter (1925–1997), from April 2 to November 8, 2026. The exhibition explores Logothetis's dialogue with Arte Povera, Gutai, and Viennese Actionism, emphasizing materiality and the human body. Art historian Nektarianna K. Saliverou contributes an essay on the artist's conceptual approaches across painting, photography, installation, and performance. Logothetis's practice centers on destruction, healing, and material contrasts, with works such as 'E224' (1977), 'E235' (1978), 'E9' (1963), and 'Torso (Ε 279)' (1981) on view. The show includes in situ installations and documentation of his 1978–1979 residency in Worpswede, Germany. Installation views by Paris Tavitian accompany the presentation.
