Emma Stone stars as alien CEO in Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia

Yorgos Lanthimos' new film Bugonia, inspired by the ancient myth of bees born from a rotting ox carcass, will be released in the US and Canada on October 24 and in Italy in November 2025. The teaser trailer, set to Green Day's Basket Case, opens with a metaphor about flowers, bees, and a queen. The title derives from the Greek bugonia (bous 'ox' + gonê 'generation'), a phenomenon described by Virgil in the Georgics. The plot follows two conspiracy-obsessed young people who kidnap a powerful CEO (Emma Stone) believing she is an alien bent on destroying Earth. The screenplay by Will Tracy is reportedly inspired by the 2003 South Korean comedy Save the Green Planet! by Jang Joon-hwan. The film stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. Lanthimos reportedly requested to shoot scenes at the Acropolis of Athens but was denied permission because the scenes did not align with the monument's symbolism or values.
