Emma Hart Wins Max Mara Art Prize for Women 2016-17 with Italian Residency and Family Therapy Focus
Emma Hart, an artist from London, has been awarded the Max Mara Art Prize for Women for the 2016-17 cycle, marking her as the sixth recipient since the prize's inception in 2005. This biennial award grants a six-month residency in Italy to female artists from the UK who have not held solo exhibitions before. Hart's project delves into family dynamics, incorporating research on the Milan Systems Approach to family therapy developed by Mara Selvini Palazzoli in Milan. Her residency will take her to Milan, Todi, and Faenza, where she will work at Alighiero Boetti's studio and investigate ceramic traditions. The judging panel featured Fiona Bradley, Sarah Elson, Alison Wilding, and Helen Sumpter. Previous honorees include Corin Sworn and Laure Prouvost. The prize will conclude with a solo exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery in 2017. Currently, Hart's exhibition 'Car Crash' is on display at Gallery Lejeune until 28 February 2016.
