Emilio Isgrò to Open Museum in His Milan Studio
Conceptual artist Emilio Isgrò, known as the 'father of erasures,' plans to transform his Milan studio into a museum open to the public. The studio at via Martiri Oscuri 5 in the NoLo district will house a foundation managing his estate. Isgrò, aged 86, announced the decision in an interview with Corriere della Sera, stating that without direct heirs, his works should benefit Milan, the city that adopted him at age 18. The foundation, established with his wife Scilla Velati, will oversee the collection, with some works inalienable and others sold to fund operations. A preliminary nucleus, the Istituto Emilio e Scilla Isgrò, opened during MuseoCity in March 2023, offering spaces for exhibitions and events. The institute aims to promote Isgrò's erasure technique as an artistic language. The studio currently includes Stanze for historical works and a Sala for literary events. A catalog raisonné curated by Bruno Corà is scheduled for 2024 publication by Skira.
