Emilio Isgrò Cancels Treccani Encyclopedia for New Commission

publication · 2026-05-04

Treccani Arte has commissioned Emilio Isgrò (b. 1937) to create a new large-format work, 'Venti voci per la Treccani e dieci virgole per il mondo' (120 x 160 cm), in a limited edition of 50 copies and 10 artist's proofs. This marks the 50th anniversary of Isgrò's historic exhibition at Galleria Schwarz in Milan, where he first presented canceled volumes of the Enciclopedia Treccani. The commission coincides with the publication of a monograph by Germano Celant, who also curates Isgrò's solo exhibition at Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice from September 14 to November 24. In an interview with Treccani Arte, Isgrò stated: 'It is from the word that thought springs. Thought is born from a good, correct use of words.'
