Emilio Ferro's Light and Sound Installation in a 15th-Century Swiss Chapel
In Gstaad, Switzerland, the 15th-century Chapel of St. Nicholas now hosts 'Liminal Journey', a site-specific installation by Italian artist Emilio Ferro (born 1988 in Alba). Curated by Dr. Valentina Locatelli and commissioned by art+château and Espace Muraille, the work combines light and sound. A white beam emanates from a totemic metal structure behind the altar, traversing the nave. When the chapel door opens, light spills outside; when closed, it remains inside, casting a glow on the door. The accompanying soundtrack samples water from rivers of Saanenland and Gstaad, transformed into a composition evoking the flow of time. The installation runs until March 2. Ferro's concept emphasizes travel as an inner journey toward awareness and transformation, offering visitors a meditative state and a new approach to contemplation.
