Emilie Volka appointed director of Artcurial Italy
Emilie Volka has been named the new director of Artcurial's Italian office in Milan, succeeding Gioia Sardagna Ferrari who led the office since its opening in 2012. Volka, who holds dual Italian and French cultural roots and a degree in art history, began her career at Finarte in 2008 as a junior specialist in 17th-century Italian furniture. She later helped establish the Milan office of the Genoese auction house Cambi before joining Artcurial. Her background combines knowledge of antiques and luxury goods with market dynamics, which aligns with Artcurial's strategy to strengthen ties with Italian collectors. Among her priorities is intensifying collaboration between the Milan and Monte Carlo offices. In November, to mark the fifth anniversary of Artcurial's presence in Italy, a preview of items destined for auction in Monte Carlo will be held in Milan. Volka aims to present Artcurial as a multidisciplinary house active in 25 sectors, not just modern art. She notes that while Italian collectors focus on antiques, modern art, and design, French collectors also pursue niche areas like numismatics and philately, and contemporary African art is gaining traction in France. Additionally, from November 14 to 17, Artcurial will exhibit a pre-futurist work by Giacomo Balla, "Agave sul mare" (1908), which will be auctioned in Paris on November 27 during the Impressionist and modern art sale.
