Emi Ligabue's 'Blu Copiativo' at Cartoleria-Tipografia Fratelli Bonvini

exhibition · 2026-04-26

At the historic Cartoleria-Tipografia Fratelli Bonvini in Milan, near Fondazione Prada, a small exhibition curated by Marta Sironi features artist Emi Ligabue (Mantova, 1957). The show, staged during Drawing Week 2025, includes a frottage drawing by Alighiero Boetti on loan from Collezione Ramo, chosen for its resonance with Ligabue's theme of 'copy'. The exhibition 'Blu Copiativo' presents eleven large monochromes on vegetal cardboard using carbon copy paper (carta copiativa) in blue, white, red, and black, with abstract forms transferred onto the surface. A site-specific installation titled 'Plentycopy' references the historical Pelikan carbon paper. The show concludes with a room of 80 postcards and 5 leporellos (folded booklets) entirely covered in blue trattopen ink, leaving only white lettering visible. The postcards feature travel greetings, evocative place names, and hotel themes, using the Veltro typeface invented in the 1930s. The leporellos are titled Miramonti, Miramare, Miralago, Strapaese, and Tuttocittà.
