Emeco House: Adaptive Reuse of a Sewing Factory in Venice, LA

Emeco House, designed by david saik studio, is a complete conversion of a former sewing factory located on the edge of a residential neighborhood in Venice, Los Angeles, United States. The project, completed in 2022, transforms the industrial structure into a versatile space featuring a ground-floor work, exhibition, and event area, while the upper level houses social spaces including a kitchen and guest bedrooms. The owners deliberately chose to preserve the existing building as an act of resistance against the ongoing demolition of structures in the area, aligning with their primary goal of creating an active neighborhood hub for community events and activities. The architecture covers an area of 3,500 square feet, with principal architect David Saik and studio architect Keith Fallen. The project is categorized under cultural architecture and was curated by Susanna Moreira. Photographs were taken by Martin Tessler, and the furniture supplier is Emeco.
