Emanuele Resce's Post-Atomic Bestiary at Spoleto Archaeological Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-27

From July 9 to 31, 2022, the Museo Archeologico di Spoleto hosts 'Spolia 5. Bestiario Post/Atomico,' a solo exhibition by Emanuele Resce (born 1987, Benevento). Invited by Carrozzeria delle Rose, Miriam Montani's artistic project, and curated by Studio A'87's Franco Troiani, Resce reconsiders his recent practice through new works blending stone, clay, industrial components, skateboards, and plasticine. The artist draws on the reuse of waste typical of southern Italian rural areas. Work titles are taken from translations of Sumerian tablets, referencing the Sumerians' early use of algorithms for commerce. Key pieces include 'Di notte oscurava i cieli' (a jellyfish-like form with a face inspired by Ubaid sculptures, made of clay, tubes, and mechanical parts), 'Colui che è l’argilla della terra' (a totem of skateboard skeletons and black plasticine), 'Luogo dei carri' (a reptile/amphibian creature of burnt plastic and tires), and 'Disordini nel bracciale martellato' (a three-eyed stone face on wrench legs, burning bioethanol during the opening). The exhibition's critical text is by Davide Silvioli. Resce's work is described as a 'cosmic artisan' practice, challenging linear human history.
