Elolo Bosoka's 'Sabala Kotoku and Other Structures' at Kunstverein Wilhelmshöhe

Ghanaian artist Elolo Bosoka's exhibition 'Sabala Kotoku and Other Structures' was on view at Kunstverein Wilhelmshöhe in Ettlingen, Germany, from 20 June to 8 August 2026. The show, curated as a 'third locality,' traces a journey across Kumasi, Copenhagen, Clermont-Ferrand, Karlsruhe, and Ettlingen, treating these locations as fluid points that feed into each other. Bosoka's practice transforms ordinary objects like onion sacks, charcoal bags, tickets, and receipts into 'living archives' of movement, memory, and exchange. He emphasizes the agency of materials, stating that objects 'look back' at viewers, and his role is to 'chaperone these histories forward.' The exhibition includes installations such as 'Dutch Onions' and 'Through the Eyes of Many,' along with photographs, offset prints, and paintings. Bosoka, a member of blaxTARLINES KUMASI, which is participating in the 2026 Venice Biennale's 'In Minor Keys,' also founded the non-profit space baseprojects to support emerging artists from Ghana and the diaspora. He cites influences from Frank Stella, Sam Gilliam, Alberto Burri, and living artists like Theaster Gates, Mark Bradford, Atta Kwami, and El Anatsui. The exhibition uses natural light from the Kunstverein's windows, integrating art and life. Bosoka's approach democratizes the making process, allowing for speculative collaborations between objects and everyday people.
