Élodie Lesourd's Lambda Pictoris at Frac Normandie Rouen

Élodie Lesourd's exhibition 'Lambda Pictoris' at Frac Normandie Rouen (January 19 – May 5, 2019) presents a total installation that merges painting, drawing, collage, and photography with a large-scale mural 'Pentagrama (Lambda Pictoris)' spanning two levels. The title references both the 'lambda painter' and a star in the constellation Pictor, reflecting her conceptual approach. Lesourd's 'hyperrockaliste' paintings transpose documentary photographs of other artists' installations into hyperrealistic oil paintings, aiming to preserve the ephemeral nature of installation art and music. She does not consider herself a painter but uses painting as a critical and conceptual tool. The exhibition includes no audible sound, relying on visual synesthesia. A concert-performance 'D.C.R∅. C.' for three guitarists based on Clément Rosset's composition took place at the opening. Lesourd also organized 'QuasaRites Day' at Le 106 in Rouen on March 9, 2019, featuring bands Sordide, Hangman's Chair, and Sunn O))), with her artworks integrated into the venue, including a merchandise project selling unique pieces. Her practice is deeply influenced by rock music and the philosophies of Schopenhauer and Jankélévitch, exploring repetition, temporality, and the ontology of art.
