Ellis Woodman Named Director of The Architecture Foundation in London

institutional · 2026-04-20

On February 18, 2015, The Architecture Foundation, a nonprofit based in London, appointed Ellis Woodman as its new director. Woodman, who critiques architecture for The Daily Telegraph, also serves as a critic-at-large for The Architectural Review and The Architect’s Journal. He has a background in editing Building Design and curated the British Pavilion during the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale. The foundation had been without leadership since Noemi Blager's departure last year, who replaced Sarah Ichioka after her maternity leave. In 2014, the organization reduced its staff from six to two and left its Tooley Street space. A proposed £5 million headquarters by Zaha Hadid was abandoned seven years ago. Woodman is eager to influence architectural debates, despite concerns from former trustee chair Will Alsop regarding the foundation's relevance.
