ElliottArchitects' Farmhouse in a Meadow Updates New England Agrarian Typology

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

ElliottArchitects has completed Farmhouse in a Meadow, a 5,125-square-foot residential project in the United States, completed in 2024. The design, led by Isaac Robbins with design team Matt Elliott, AIA, and Maggie Kirsch, reinterprets the New England connected farmstead archetype through three gabled volumes—'big house', 'little house', and 'barn'—that are staggered and separated, with glass infill in the interstitial spaces to provide direct connections to the adjacent meadow. The architectural language borrows from and updates agrarian architecture, extending it across all volumes. The project was built by Brookes + Hill Custom Builders, with landscape architecture by Richardson & Associates, structural engineering by Thornton Tomasetti, and lighting design by Peter Knuppel Lighting Design. Photographs are by Jeff Roberts. Manufacturers include Baldwin, Kolbe Windows & Doors, Marvin, TruStile, and Viessmann.
