Ellie Davies Shortlisted for Aesthetica Art Prize with Stars Series at York St Mary's
Ellie Davies is among ten artists shortlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize, with her exhibition at York St Mary's running until 29 May 2016. Her series Stars merges forest landscapes with Hubble Telescope imagery to examine humanity's fragile connection to nature. Davies grew up in the New Forest, and her move to London created a disconnection that informs her work. She studied photography at London College of Communication, shifting from urban figures to landscape-focused explorations. Her practice involves solitary walks in woods, where locations and ideas become intrinsically linked. Exposure from Aesthetica has led to opportunities including interest from a US gallery and a UK curator. Davies will launch her new series Half Light (2016) at Photo London through Crane Kalman Brighton Gallery from 19 to 22 May, followed by a solo exhibition Into The Woods at Crane Kalman Gallery in Knightsbridge from 21 July to 20 August, featuring works from Stars and other series.
