Elizabeth Hurwitz Named Baltimore Museum of Art Board Chair

Elizabeth J. Himelfarb Hurwitz has been appointed as the new Board Chair of the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), taking over from James D. Thornton, who held the position since 2022. A Baltimore native and interior designer, Hurwitz has been actively involved with the museum for over ten years, contributing as a volunteer, committee leader, and in strategic planning. She became a member of the BMA Board of Trustees in 2020 and recently directed the museum's strategic planning for 2026, emphasizing sustainable growth and audience engagement. Hurwitz, who earned her BA from Yale University and a Master of Public Health from Boston University, has also served on various committees and is a trustee of The Bryn Mawr School. BMA Director Asma Naeem commended her curiosity and empathy, highlighting her understanding of the museum's responsibilities.
