Elizabeth Glaessner's Spectral Visions at Consortium Museum
Elizabeth Glaessner's first institutional exhibition in France, 'Four Legs in a Garden,' is on view at the Consortium Museum in Dijon until May 22, 2022. The American artist (born 1984 in Palo Alto) presents seven paintings that blend water-dispersed pigments with oil on canvas, creating spectral, dreamlike figures. Her technique involves letting colors flow in water before fixing them with oil layers, resulting in distorted bodies with elongated limbs, evoking psychological tension. References to art history appear, such as a curled arm recalling Munch's 'The Scream' and a couple in a forest echoing Masaccio's 'Expulsion from the Garden of Eden.' The works feature gnome-like heads with large eyes, reminiscent of Miriam Cahn's creatures. The exhibition is part of a group of shows at the Consortium, including Sergej Jensen, Nathaniel Mary Quinn, Tursic & Mille, and Bertrand Lavier. Additionally, Glaessner will have a solo show at Galerie Perrotin Turenne in Paris from September 3 to October 8, 2022.
