Eliza Douglas Debuts New York Solo Show 'GHOSTS' at Gagosian

Eliza Douglas's first solo exhibition in New York, 'GHOSTS,' opened at Gagosian's Park & 75 location, marking her debut with the gallery. Curated by Francesco Bonami, the show reworks paintings from the past decade originally shown at Air de Paris, overlaying them with UV-printed photographs taken by her aunt, journalist Leslie Kean, known for reporting on UFOs. Kean began making selfies in 2025 that she believed captured strange visual occurrences; Douglas manipulates these images to partially obscure earlier works, creating a tension between revelation and concealment. The exhibition echoes themes from Gagosian London's 2022 'Haunted Realism' show, which explored Jacques Derrida's concept of hauntology. A black-and-white photograph of Air de Paris founder Florence Bonnefous is included, reflecting on memory and artistic lineage. Douglas's practice, spanning painting, performance, fashion, photography, and sculpture, often probes originality and authorship. 'GHOSTS' runs from May 12 to July 31, 2026.
