Èlitis Launches Asteré Wallpaper Collection by Contemporary Artists

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

French company Èlitis has introduced Asteré, a wallpaper collection that transforms homes into private galleries by merging sculpture, fashion, and design on a single surface. Contemporary artists Garance Vallée, the duo Porter Teleo, and François Mascarello were invited to create works bridging art and interior design. Each piece explores experimentation and intuition, turning simple materials into symbols with monochromes, vivid colors, and gradients inspired by the Vienna Secession, surrealism, and ancient sculptures reimagined in figurative and contemporary forms. Mascarello's designs reference William Morris, Roman Opalka, and American Expressionist Robert Motherwell, drawing from Otto Wagner and the Vienna Secession. He spent weeks refining colors, exploring lines of writing, and extracting luxury from basic materials, influenced by music that accompanied his creative process. Porter Teleo's collection layers pigmented inks where forms appear to float, evoking water or clouds with abstraction reminiscent of Franz Kline and Jackson Pollock. Garance Vallée's work is delicate and archetypal, playing with space and matter to create volumes and trompe l'oeil effects, inspired by modernism and solar imagery rooted in the Mediterranean, with sculptural references to Brancusi and Calder in beige, ochre, and brown tones.
