Elisa Filomena and Milena Sgambato Explore Vulnerability in Dual Exhibition at Galleria Biffi Arte

The dual exhibition 'Vulnerabilia' at Galleria Biffi Arte in Piacenza, curated by Vera Agosti, runs until September 6, 2026. It features over thirty paintings by Elisa Filomena (from Piedmont) and Milena Sgambato (originally from Campania, based in Milan). The show presents their works as a dialogue on vulnerability as a form of resistance, not weakness. Both artists include self-portraits, breaking the distance between viewer and artwork. The installation is arranged as a score of visual correspondences: in the Sala delle Colonne, Sgambato's 'Adamo ed Eva' meets Filomena's 'La Processione' in an archetypal reflection on birth and nature. In the Salone d'Onore, two unprecedented painted screens by the artists serve as fragile objects that both protect and reveal. The exhibition extends into two small solo shows in the Sale del Paradiso: Filomena presents intimate works on paper, while Sgambato focuses on her 'Unicorni' series, figures of eccentricity and marginality. Both artists work with speed of gesture, perceptual immediacy, and layers of transparency. Filomena's work evokes a spiritual, mysterious elsewhere, while Sgambato transforms everyday scenes into complex emotional territories. The exhibition avoids rhetoric, instead turning vulnerability into a language of doubt, unease, and desire for belonging.
