Elio Germano narrates migrant drama 'No Borders' at Venice Film Festival

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

At the Venice Film Festival's MigrArti section, the short film 'No Borders' addresses the migrant crisis and lack of reception. Director Haider Rashid, a Florentine of Iraqi origin, sets the story between the No Borders center in Ventimiglia and the Baobab in Rome, both cleared despite being important reference points. Elio Germano, the narrator, also serves as a producer, contributing his professionalism and image. The initiative adds to the festival's attention to the issue, including the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement awarded to Jerzy Skolimowski, a filmmaker who has focused on outsiders and the marginalized. In his acceptance speech, Skolimowski stated, 'I too have been a migrant, I know how it feels when you are forced to leave your country. The migrant issue is one of the most important problems of our times: these people deserve to be looked at with empathy.'
