Elide portable dewrinkler uses suction and warm air to smooth clothes worn on body

architecture-design · 2026-07-28

Safaa Fojdar, a graduate of De Montfort University, has engineered a prototype named Elide, a cordless device designed to eliminate wrinkles from clothing while it is being worn. This innovative tool employs a vacuum-like nozzle to direct warm air at a safe maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius onto garments, while gentle suction smooths the fabric. Users can lightly moisten their clothes using a refillable spray bottle integrated into the cap before treatment. The design utilizes the Coandă effect, which combines moisture and suction to flatten the fabric while warm air dries it. Additionally, Elide can serve as a compact iron with a hot plate attachment that heats up to 200 degrees Celsius. Fojdar showcased a functional 3D-printed prototype at the New Designers event in London, highlighting emerging design talent from the UK.
