Elias Cafmeyer's 'Connecting Stations of Past and Present' at spazioSERRA
Belgian artist Elias Cafmeyer (Bruges, 1990) presents his first solo exhibition in Italy, 'Connecting Stations of Past and Present', at spazioSERRA in Milan's Lancetti station. The show is part of the 'un posto iMPOSSIBILE' season, a series of six exhibitions curated by the non-profit cultural association spazioSERRA. Cafmeyer, known for sculptural works using industrial materials like metal, wood, and concrete, has previously exhibited at S.M.A.K. (Ghent) and Extra City (Antwerp), as well as galleries Keteleer and mariodecannière. The site-specific installation creates a visual dialogue between Brussels-Schaerbeek station and Milan Lancetti, incorporating elements such as pillars, a ticket machine, signage, and PVC flooring. A poster featuring the artist as a model against the backdrop of Milan's Duomo references his personal history with the city. Cafmeyer aims to alter commuters' perception of the liminal space, using a tourism-themed billboard to capture attention. The work is autobiographical, marking a turning point in his practice. He plans a future project bringing Milan to Brussels.
