Eleonora Roaro Turns Industrial Disaster into Art at Carrara's MudaC
Eleonora Roaro's solo exhibition at MudaC in Carrara transforms the 1988 Farmoplant chemical disaster into an artistic experience. The show centers on the video "LA NUBE," a collaborative project blending industrial sounds by Emiliano Bagnato with 1980s DIY-style animations by Corinne Ingegnieri. Curated by Cinzia Compalati and Vanina Saracino, the video incorporates Super8, VHS-C, radio, TV news, advertisements, and documents, displayed alongside archival material from local associations that have denounced the Apuan chemical hub's harm. The exhibition features the character "La ZIA" (Zona Industriale Apuana), a female figure embodying the industrial territory, who smokes, poisons herself, and consumes media across eras from fascism to today. A visual reference to the TV series "Mad Men" critiques the Tobacco Strategy of systematic denial. The show includes a public program of meetings and workshops, extending the museum's role as a laboratory.
